This wave seems to be good
Got an invitation from a friend to Google Wave.Explored some of it features and its actually cool. Its basically a collaborative tool integrating services like e-mail, instant messaging, wikis, and social networking into a one single product.I guess it was time for regular email-instant messaging to evolve into something like this.Basically you can create a thread of conversation or something known as a 'wave' wherein you can add people from your contact list and there you are...ready to go.You can start instant messaging and as you type, people on the other side can actually see what you are typing. You can also add your own attachments to the conversations just as in your regular email. So its basically like a dashboard where you can share images, video, audio and text.At any point of time you have an option of following or un-following a wave.
Besides regular formatting features you have feature like striking your text, highlighting it, instant spell checks, editing of conversations simultaneously by multiple users added to a wave, which was infact something that was missing in the predecessors. The best part is the translation feature and playback. You can actually type in English and it would get translated to French for your friend who understands just French.I mean we all know gmail supported transliteration and translation both but transliteration was pain sometimes and for translation we needed to add bots. But translation feature in wave is definitely seamless and sleek. And when the whole conversation becomes humongous you can playback and see what actually happened. Now isn't that wonderful?
Well that's not all.Sometimes during a conversation you may need to search a word and there you are.You have a link to Google search which opens as a small pop-up in a corner. You can also add your own gadgets like Chess or Sudoko to play with your friends.Besides these there are built-in 'Yes-No' and 'map' gadgets. For example, if you want to run an opinion poll, just type your question, add this 'Yes-No' gadget and you are done. The 'map gadget' helps you to indicate locations or mark places.
So happy waving:-) For more...
