Bangalore
It was year 2004, when I boarded my train to Bangalore, waving to my parents on the platform. This was not the first time I was going away from home, but those two pair of eyes watching me intently, from the platform, were filled with all worries and apprehensions.
I came back to my seat and looked around to see whom I was travelling with, and I saw a friendly looking couple smiling at me,I smiled back. After some introduction, we finally settled in our spaces. I started with my book...Wings of Fire...but at the back of my mind there were thousands of thoughts from my past and worries about my future which kept on clouding my mind, as I skimmed through my book. After some time I was completely into the book and I travelled along with it.
The train journey to Bangalore was a long one and I kept on taking breaks from my book.I watched the world outside. The train kept on moving as does this life....crossing through the green fields, then some barren land over the bridges making so much noise and then some green fields again with people working in them, then some houses and some more and you finally reach some station. As soon as it reaches the station, you can see vendors pouring in with tea, snacks, fruits, magazines and what not.You see some new faces boarding the train, people struggling with their luggage trying to find their seats and you also see some old faces leaving the train. You feel sad initially but when you see them on the platform with all happy faces, glad to reach their destination, hugging their near and dear ones who came to receive them, you feel happy for them .My journey finally ended and I was finally stepping down from the train and looking around searching for my brother.
I had reached Bangalore finally. My mind went back to year 2000 when I was still studying and I had come down here to attend my cousin's wedding. Bangalore was so different then and its slow pace as compared to Bombay had kind of irritated me then but I strongly remember there were lots of trees all around.
I finally stepped out of the train, and looked around and here he is.After initial catching up session, we went up to a place where he stayed. All the time I was looking around thinking....am I going to like this place now.Days, months and years have passed since then and its been four years now and I haven't gone back. This place has slowly assimilated me and I have been taken away by its charm, simplicity, pleasant weather and trees. The slow pace which irritated me years back, now kind of impresses me.When I think of this city, I see it as city of contradictions with huge, elegant malls and hi-tech IT parks on one side and with a coconut vendor pulling his bicycle on the other, with European clients moving around the city in well equipped vehicles and a BMTC bus crowded up to its neck and dragging itself, completely tilted to one side begging people to take mercy on it.But that is how it is and I confess I like it now :)
